Corporate Walk Case Study
Kirkland and Ellis - Bespoke Corporate London Walk
Kirkland and Ellis LLP
Kirkland & Ellis LLP is an American multinational law firm headquartered in Chicago, Illinois. Founded in 1909, Kirkland & Ellis is the largest law firm in the world by revenue and the seventh-largest by number of attorneys.
Kirkland and Ellis established their London office in 1994 and now has an award-winning team of attorneys focussing on advising financial investors, as well as private equity, real estate, special situations and other investment funds on European transactions, as well as multinationals and other public and private companies.
Based in 30, St. Mary Axe (The Gherkin), the company approached us to provide a lunchtime walk for the area in the immediate vicinity of the workplace.
The Corporate London Walk
The Company had been encouraging their colleagues to take part in STEPtember, an annual walk challenge which aims to get participants walking at least 10.000 steps per day in September whilst raising funds for causes such as Move Together For Cerebral Palsy.
Our walk took us from the Gherkin, past Lloyds of London, into Leadenhall Market and then through the alleyways and courtyards off Cornhill. We were struck by the number of people who had worked in the City but who were unaware of the wealth of history that was on their doorstep. Perhaps we are all guilty of heading to and from the office without spending time to look at what is around us!
Clearly Kirkland and Ellis were well aware of the physical health benefits of a good walk. However, one member of staff commented to us that for them the real positive was that staff were chatting to colleagues that they didn’t normally encounter, that people were able to forget the office environment for an hour and crucially, that people were laughing and having a good time!
Several staff commented at the end of the walk about their experience – this is what they said;
“I just wanted to pass on my thanks to the organiser for arranging such a fabulous and interesting lunchtime walk. I stretched my mind as well as my legs this lunchtime and I feel I now deserve the lunch I'm about to tuck into!”
“Special thanks to Caroline the walk guide who brought London history to life. I shall be booking a further guided walk with her soon”
“I just wanted to send a quick email to say I really enjoyed the tour at lunchtime (and so did the other people I spoke to on the tour!) and the hosts were great. I would definitely like to attend another one if there was one organised”
“Thank you for the wonderful lunchtime walking tour of central London. It was both informative and engaging - I learned so much about the rich history of the area! Plus, it was a great way to get in my steps for the day and connect with colleagues and meet few new joiners, this was probably the best lunch hour I have had at Kirkland. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience”
